Most people discard the idea of camping because of the daunting task of towing a large, heavy travel trailer to their destination. They can alternatively consider an ultra lightweight travel trailer. They are smaller and much easier to maneuver. Many of these are in the 12 to 14 feet range and weigh around 1,200 pounds. These can easily be towed with a medium-duty truck or an SUV, and some can even be towed with a 4-cylinder engine. Most of the lightweights available in the market today include nearly all of the features of a larger travel trailer, and, in some cases, new and innovative features. These trailers have an additional advantage of being able to camp in spots that others cannot fit, especially in national parks. Ultra-lightweight travel trailer is also an excellent option budget wise.

Ultra lightweight travel trailer usually have less insulation, thinner walls, and fewer amenities, as part of reducing weight, which can lead to a less comfortable experience for some travelers. Another drawback is they are more susceptible to sway and instability on the road, especially in windy or uneven conditions because they are lighter.
